Pioneer Valley Weavers Library

Dedication of the Pioneer Valley Weaver’s Library – December 13, 2016

Debbie Adamczyk, Chair and Carol Birtwistle, Librarian officially dedicate the library.

At our Holiday Social, Pioneer Valley Weavers took time to dedicate our library to Catherine Leary, SSJ. Catherine was a gentle soul with a hint of mischief. She belonged to the order of Sisters of St. Joseph in Springfield MA, her hometown.

An educated woman, she had a Bachelor’s from Our Lady of the Elms and both a Masters in applied Science from AIC and Religious education from Boston College. Catherine was a Master Weaver from Hill Institute. A long-standing member of Pioneer Valley she served as Chair, Treasurer and Librarian and was always willing to help. Catherine was published in “Handwoven” and “Weaving for Worship” and provided lectures on Weaving and Spirituality and Bobbin Lace as well as participating in loom blessings over the years. She also enjoyed teaching children to weave.

Catherine struggled with illness and went to her reward in May 2015. Our members, wanting a fitting tribute to someone who was such a presence in our guild, made the decision to dedicate our library in her memory. It was an appropriate honor considering the number of years Catherine spent as our Librarian.
