Pioneer Valley Weavers News

December 12, 2022

WHO WE ARE
We are a guild of weavers united by our common fascination with the interlacement of fibers. Some of us are just beginning to enjoy weaving, others are fairly proficient and a few are professional weavers. Several of us are at the loom every day while others struggle to find small bits of time in which to weave.

We weave on large looms in separate rooms devoted just to weaving and small looms on the kitchen table. We gather to encourage and learn from each other. PVW is the sum of our actions, reflected in our reputation.

COME JOIN US
Our meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday from September through June at WEBS, 75 Service Center Road, Northampton, MA, in Classroom 3.

Pioneer Valley Weavers wish to express their gratitude to WEBS for their long-term and generous support of our Guild and our programs.

December Presentation

Join Barbara Elkins and Mary Jones as we take a tour of the weaving yarns of WEBS. We will learn what makes a good warp and weft while we revisit old favorites and are introduced to some surprising choices. This will be a great opportunity for new inspiration for the coming year.

There will also be a Potluck Social. See details below.

December Potluck Social

Hello Weavers,

WEBS is allowing food at our meetings just in time for our holiday pot luck. We will be having a program but, we can squeeze in some food. No Yankee Swap this year.

The meeting will begin at 6:00 note change!

If your last name begins with:

A-F please bring something savory.          G-Z please bring something sweet.

It would be very helpful if you can list ingredients or the food label as several members have allergies. In the past we have all brought our own plates and utensils, we will have some available if you forget. Any questions contact Cindy Romaniak at ten.tsacmoc@kainamhtam or 413-433-9773.

Coffee and tea will be served.  Looking forward to all the goodies!

Chair’s Corner

Hello Weavers,

On the last Friday of each month, Barbara Elkins hosts a weaver’s Discussion Group. We all gather to discuss all aspects of weaving. Much of the discussion is centered around weaving projects members have brought in, but it can be questions or problems with warps and/or projects. Successes and how you got there.

I recently brought in an overshot study I had done for everyone’s thoughts. The comments were invaluable, ideas I hadn’t thought about. A member who dyes her yarn illustrated how one color played off another and what made that particular combination work for her. Another member brought in a wonderful piece woven by a local weaver. Design, structure, yarn are all considered.

There are often 10-15 of us so the discussion is lively and full of information. Please join us on the last Friday of the month at WEBS in Classroom 2 at 2pm and bring a project, a question, an idea, or yourself. You can’t beat group think!
